Movies: Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street

Eeekk* As expected from a Tim Burton movie. Gloomy.
This is a musical. Minus the cheerfulness and dances. Very violent, and cannibalistic. With a bad ending. >.<
The plot is very predictable. With each character introduced I've sorta guessed what was their fate. Don't get me wrong. I do enjoy Tim Burton films. But this one lacks a certain mysticism found in his previous works. Eg. Sleepy Hollow.
1/5. Johnny Depp's got a surprisingly good singing voice though.
>.< Meat pie anyone?
Trailer:
I've ordered all 5 seasons of Queer as Folk. A series which is somewhat similar to Sex in the City. But it's mainly about gay men. Got raving reviews for it so finally decided to watch it.
Food: Kheng Heong Restaurant
For a long time I've wanted to dine-in somewhere in Brickfields. I've heard that there are good eateries around and so I decided yesterday was the day. As I was also fetching my lead back to his place, he proposed dinner with him and his wife, thus arose the opportunity.
My colleague was particularly fond with one of the restaurants located just opposite the Brickfields police station. Named Kheng Heong Restaurant.
As I've learned, they specialize in Hainan cuisine. Though I am not sure how genuine that claim is, I am unable to tell the difference considering I've never exclusively tasted hainanese cuisine other than the steamed chicken rice.
I've also researched some online materials and decided to order dishes recommended by Very SEDAP!!!
Some prenotes:
1) Kheng Heong does not accept Credit Card payment. The owner proclaims that the food are well below credit financing (aka cheap). This claim is true, as will be explained below.
2) There are a row of restaurants where Kheng Heong is situated. Just look out for the enclosed one with air condition. That's the place.
3) I've borrowed the pictures from Very SEDAP!!! Since I did not bring a camera on my own yesterday.
I've ordered the following:
1) Boxing chicken (Roughly Rm1.50 per piece, normally you order on a per pair basis)- Basically chicken drummets but having the meat/skin yanked right to the top, so it resembles mini chicken drumsticks. The marinate was flavourful and you could easily enjoy it without any sauce. Beware though, the dish is ladened with chicken skin, and it's easily a very fatty indulgence. Though this is one of the signature dish and it's worthed a try.
2) Marmite pork rips (Rm18)- Standard fare. But the cook was very generous for providing hefty amount of marmite sauce over the pork rips. Very tasty. The meat is very moist and tender.
3) Fried home made toufu, garnished with scallions and topped with dried shrimps. (Rm10)- The picture is another variation of the tofu, which is steamed and topped with minced meat. The one I've ordered is fried, cut in small pieces, hence a different presentation. It was absolutely delicious! And somehow I couldn't get enough of the dried shrimp. Absolutely scrumptious! No allergy reactions there. ;-P ;-P
4) Nonya style Fried Garoupa (Fei zhau yue) (Rm20)- As per usual, the picture showed another variation of preparation, being steamed. Though mine was fried, they used the same pineapple tangy sauce over the fish, garnishing with some petai.
The sauce was a bit too diluted in my opinion. I was hoping for a more thicker consistency. Though it's quite flavourful. I made a mistake ordering the fried fish, should have stuck to the steamed one, it goes better with the sauce.
All in all it was a very good meal. 3 people sharing 4 dishes. The dishes alone totals up to only RM49. Portion is generous. Which is a good deal in my opinion.
The food may be nice, but I must admit that it's very oily. Always wise to wash down with some chinese tea and lots of water.
Well worthed a subsequent visit. 3.5/5

Heath Ledger: Rising Star, Respected Actor

Oh My God... Sigh~
It's very unexpected... very tragic... I always did like Heath Ledger. Still like him a lot. And am really really waiting for his upcoming movie The Dark Knight to premiere in theaters this coming May.
To me, Heath's a dedicated actor who's entertained us with many many characters he's played. Being brave by taking up all sort of dynamic roles, and always coming up convincingly, he was paving his way straight to grade A stardom... Good looking, sweet guy... Until this happened...
Sigh~ Rest in peace Heath... Find peace in God's grace.
Deepest condolences to his immediate family, especially his daughter...

Some Thought
It's been a while since I posted about my own day-to-day ramblings 'ere. I guess the moment spurs for it right now.
Yesterday I was extremely angered by the organizers for going on with the marathon even when it was raining cats and dogs. Prior to starting the run, there were tall tail signs of down pour and on the very first leg it started pouring, yet they went ahead.
I and some others only went on for 2 minutes and decided to make a detour back to the starting point seeking shelter. Have just recovered from a bad flu and I am by no circumstance wanting to re-invite the illness. Deep inside me I was so pissed off and unsatisfied that I couldn't and didn't want to make for the finish line. Few minutes later, a mild thunder storm hit the place.
I am in no mood and not even obligated to listen to anyone stating that it's a small matter running under the rain, and it was just an excuse for me not wanting to participate in sweaty sports. To them, I would say: FUCK YOU. Because I would say that these people are hypocrites and given the very same moment, if they could go ahead with the rain, then I would bow down and kiss their feet -> After they've scrub them nicely of course. I ain't gonna kiss your fucking stinking feet after you've trudged through shit.
In any case, I went on a solo marathon today after work. Going through the exact same route as the crowd did yesterday. (Which by the way I've heard many cheated with shortcuts. >.<) And was pretty happy that at least I've accomplished something. Yes, it might be insignificant to many. Be it as it may, it means something to me and I'm sorry to say, either respect it, or fuck it.
Today I had an open window with him. Somehow he was being very open in our conversation. We were talking about past meetings, first impressions, the works. But I was pissed that I didn't seek that very moment to ask him something. Things that I wanted to get off my chest for a very long time.
You see, I'm in deeply in love with this guy. Although I know for sure that nothing can ever happen between us. Still, I am always wanting to seek his approval in almost every instance. Yeah sure, I shouldn't have expectations, but fuck it. We are human, if anyone can tell me that they don't have a spec of expectation from people they are in love with, like, or even good friends with... I dare say they are fucking liars/deniars, and can go suck some cow balls for all I care.
Back to the story... my principle question was wanting to ask him... why does he mistreat me in almost every turn... Insulting me... Calling me rude names... Action driven by some disgust with me... And fuck no I ain't being sensitive. I would say fuck you if you were to beep me with that reason. Because frequency of these occurence are just way to high to pass it as coincidence.
Suffice to say... I missed that window of opportunity... and I am still contemplating on whether it was even the right decision to wanting to ask him in the first place...
You see... he's... arrogant... self absorbed... wanting to be right always... takes satisfaction in ridiculing me... But still... there's a sweetness in him that surfaces occasionally that makes me forget about his wrong doings sometimes... I am so confused...
Question is... should I ever approached him in the future...? Logic dictates no I guess... Sigh~
I am the kind of guy who wants to at least get an understanding across the other side... and likewise obtain it myself... to form some sort of closure in a topic/situation... Otherwise... these things would keep haunting me from time to time... It even reminds me in my dreams.
I fucking hate that feeling... That wanting to explain myself to people... my intentions... but the other side just refuses to even understand what's to be said... Such arrogance... which I am starting to learn how to fuck off. I mean... why even bother explaining if the other side refuses to listen.
As the saying goes... if one side decides to be a bitch/bastard... Just be the same. Screw those people saying, we should always show sympathy/compassion to our enemies. What benefit has it obtained us? I've learned from time to time that this is the fact. And it's just a waste of time being nice. Be it anybody.
Sigh~ Still so much more to learn in life.
My company didn't recognize Thaipusam as a public holiday initially. Heck, they didn't even declare Awal Muharam as one. Today I learned a lot of nasty dirty secrets that the HR has been cooking up with their dirty little hands.
I am so surprised... politics already present even the company is in its infant stage.
Put it simply, the HR has been fucking with us for so long, finally an upper management decided to take the opp to screw their pussies up after they screwed up with Awal muharam. Serves them right I say.
The rate they are going, they will find themselves drowned by their very own blood in the not too distant future.
Still... I feel compassion for them because everyone is starting to be against them... WHY MUST I EVEN FEEL COMPASSION!? They fucked up... they deserve to die! JUST LET THEM DIE!
Well, just some ramblings. Pardon the colorful language. That's just who I am. Not comfortable? Then look elsewhere.

Movies: Cloverfield

Firstly, I would like to place some fair WARNINGS before any of you decide to go watch the movie. If you are indeed already set for it this weekend, do take heed:
1) This is a documentary-eques movie. It's exactly like Blair Witch Project (the 1st one), and throughout the 1 hour 15 minutes fare, you are viewing scenes through the perspective of a handy cam. If you despise this concept of cinematography, stear clear!
2) If you are prone to motion sickness, STEAR CLEAR! Throughout the movie, the camera is wobbling, shaking, jerking, etc... At the end of the movie there were many experiencing nausea. Myself included. I was on the verge of throwing up. No exaggeration here. And I recall seeing some ppl getting out of the movie midway.
3) Don't get seats after the 4th row from the back. The ideal focal point to comprehend this movie ends there. Any closer and you're in for one hell of a ride. Like I did.
4) Watch the movie only with an empty stomach.
5) Give yourself a half hour breather after the movie before engaging in activities like driving.
6) Go on Wednesdays, 10 bucks just don't quite justify a 1 hour 15 minutes documentary.
Ok, now getting those out of the way, I will go saying: This movie is GREAT!!!! Totally 4/5! I felt for the characters all the way. The special effects are superb! And most importantly, it oozes realism, being acted and filmed documentary style and all. And NO, it's not another Godzilla movie, FAR FROM IT.
There isn't any storyline here. The key importance are the characters. Particularly with the main guy Rob (Which I have to admit, is one HOT guy). And how someone would go the extra mile to get a simple message across... Very human! Omg, I cried at the end... >.< Trailer:

Street Fighter: Evolution
Ahhh... the games we grew up with. I am sure there were lots to remember, but I am also sure you guys were no stranger to the world renown Street Fighter series. Though Street Fighter 2 was the actual game that started all the craze.
1990
The whole franchise booted with Street Fighter. It was not heard of by many just yet. And there were only 2 playable characters: Ryu and Ken.
Then when Street Fighter 2 came out, the whole world went nuts! Myself included! I even remember buying a video tape (Pirated) which consisted of recordings by a pro playing through with all 8 characters! I even went as far as begging my parents to buy me the arcade cabinet containing the game's rom chip!
Well, that time no home consoles were powerful enough to generate that kind of power to run CPS1 specific rom games. Only the 16-bit consoles came close. I remember having only a Micro genius/NES console (8-bit), and I was so happy obtaining the palia pirated version of Street Fighter 2. =P And it was GOOD: Surprisingly. ;-)
Not long later, capcom decided to release a hella lot of different Street Fighter 2 versions. The final being Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo: Which introduced 'Akuma/Gouki' into the foray of characters.
1994
When CPS2 arcade systems were invented, so came the 32-bit era of home consoles (PSX, Sega Saturn), then came in Street Fighter Alpha series. Total of 3 in the series. The Alpha series served as prequels to the original Street Fighter. I love the animation and the roster of fighters here. And the fact that they legitimize the use of super combos just make the fight that much more fun.
At the same time, another division of Capcom decided to debut Street Fighter franchise into the 3D realm: Titled Street Fighter EX. Controls are mainly the same (Streamlined-2D), but the characters and environment are in full 3D. Total of 3 in the series as well. The fun factor sorta stopped at number 2. EX3 was out exclusively for the PS2 and it was pretty bad.
1997
Thus when the CPS3 was born, so did Street Fighter 3 series. Again, total of 3 in the series, ending with Third Strike. Street Fighter 3 is the sequel to the 2 series featuring much older Ryu and Ken, as well as other characters. One distinct difference from the previous series is each character now boast a hefty amount of movement animation, making the gameplay look and feel really fluid. And the gameplay also features a heavy reliance on parrying, which allows a player to counter an opponent attack with his/her super combo or normal attack.
Spin-offs (VS Series/Cross Company Fighter: 1996 - 200x)
Who could forget the infamous VS series? Including Marvel VS Capcom, featuring characters from the Marvel Universe pitting against the Street Fighters, and SNK VS Capcom, featuring King of Fighter bad-boys/gals versus the Street Fighters. A hellula lot of fun!
1999 - 200x
Around this timeline, M.U.G.E.N. was conceived, which is essentially a freeware 2D fighting engine in which fighting fans can design their own fighting game, using character sprites they can find from well... anywhere. With it, came a roster of crazy fighters... ranging from superman vs ryu, castlevania characters fighting chun-li... etc... Ohh, and even Ronald McDonalds (Yes, the I'm loving it clown) VS Morrigan as witnessed in the video below:
Lol... *Tears of disbelief*
Finally, in Year 2008, Capcom will be releasing Street Fighter IV! Not much about it is known just yet, except that it will be in 2.5D concept, whereby characters and environment are in full 3D whereas the fighting style is still streamlined 2D. But I think if a player's special move connects, there will be slo-mo close ups to show the impact of said move, which conceptually is pretty coowl. But not sure how well it will be executed.
Can't wait what lies installed... Just gonna keep fingers crossed!

Movgling: Atonement

This is a very interesting film, though with a sad ending. 3.5/5
Very nice musical score (Love how the composer incorporated type writer chingings into the soundtrack), nice storyline (albeit slow-moving for some), and the way one scene is reprotrayed again to reinforce its meaning, sorta catches the eye.
If you're not into artsy stylized movies, this is not for you.

Movgling: Resident Evil Degeneration
Omg omg omg... *Waves hands around like a girl*
This has no affiliation whatsoever with the movie adaptation. It's an ACTUAL SEQUEL to after the events of Resident Evil 4 (Game's story arc).
Capcom has decided to make a feature-length movie in full CG-glory (Much like Square-Enix done for Final Fantasy VII) to continue the story.
And Leon and Claire are both present!!! WOOHOOO!!!!!! Dues sometime this year.
